English: The Swedes take Eurovision Song Contest extremely serious. The national takeout is the biggest tv-show in Sweden and half of the population (!) watches the final. And we always think that we will win the Eurovision Song Contest. And we always get so disappointed when we don't. People even talk about that we shouldn't participate in it because the countries only vote for their neighbours and since we're such a small country we can't win.
But still we're just as excited the following year and once again we think: This year we'll win. It has been going on like this since 1999 since our last victory. It was the same this year, our contestant was a favorite and everybody thought she would win. Exactly like every year before. But guess what! This time we did win! And I honestly think there is nothing that can beat this in our country, no hockey game, Olympic gold medal or anything.
I was watching the competition at a sports bar (see, even they air it) together with some friends and the atmosphere was amazing. When our contestant Loreen sang everybody went quite and afterwards they applauded, and not to mention when the points started coming, then everybody went crazy.

I know lots of my readers are from outside of Europe and if you want to know more about the Eurovision - check this out:

ReplyDeleteI love love LOVE the Song Contest!! I have been watching since 1997. :) And even though my own country did poorly (Austria was LAST in the first semi) I voted for Sweden yesterday and Austria gave Loreen 12 points. :) I actually think about visiting Sweden again next year in time for the ESC! I also voted for Eric Saade last year. ;)
ReplyDeleteEric Saade was my favourite last year, along with Kati Wolf from Hungary! "I will be popular, I will be popular!" :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your way - we came second last, hurrah! (However we don't take it real seriously, although there's talk of us dropping because of the political voting - but also as the UK puts the most money into the contest)
